Cocktails for NYE
New Year’s Eve is all about celebrating in style.
With that in mind, we asked Daniel Hooper, Co-Founder of YesMore drinks-marketing agency (and former superyacht crew member) to share with us his recommendations.
The St. Claire
Perfect for the sailor who enjoys the finer things in life, Salcombe ‘Start Point’ Gin is named after the coastal headlands sailors use to mark the starting point of races. The St. Clair cocktail is a fruiter alternative to champagne and served in a flute for celebrations. The name is derived from the famous fruit schooner ‘The St. Clair’ which travelled the world to bring back exotic fruits to the port town of Salcombe in Devon.

- 25ml Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’
- 25ml St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
- 20ml Freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice
- 70ml Chilled soda water
- Red grapefruit peel for decorative garnish
- Fill a boston shaker with ice.
- Add the red grapefruit juice, St. Germain and Salcombe Gin.
- Shake vigorously.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a flute glass.
- Add the chilled soda water.
- Slice a thin piece of grapefruit peel and add to the rim of the glass for a garnish.
The French 75
It’s the sort of gin you’d expect to sip on the sundeck when anchored off Pampelonne or at the waterside of Hercules Port in Monaco. Or of course, get made up into the French 75 cocktail to see in the next decade this New Year’s Eve. The distinct citrus notes of the gin enhance the flavours of the sugar, lemon juice and dryness of the champagne for a truly unique cocktail.
- 45ml CAP Gin
- 75ml Champagne
- 15ml Fresh lemon juice
- 1.5 tsp Sugar syrup
- Lemon peel
- Combine CAP Gin, sugar syrup, and lemon juice in an ice-filled cocktail shaker.
- Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled champagne glass.
- Top up with Champagne. Stir gently.
